After 1960, the notion of the artist clearly shifted. It is characterized by taking into account the varied innovations of aesthetical practice while at the same time reactivating old aspects of the artists image obliged to tradition. Only upon first sight does it seem paradoxical that the expansion of the concept of art and the delimitation of the venues of art go hand in hand with a return to the legendary components in the image of the artist. For the art of the past 40 years treats the traditional, mythical conceptions of artistry in a much more conscious and aggressive way than was the case in Modernism.
