Discourse and reproduction1994

essays in honor of Basil Bernstein

by Basil B. Bernstein

Basil Bernstein was one of the most important figures in British sociology, his ideas having inspired a great deal of empirical research and theoretical speculation throughout the world. The purpose of this collection, however, is not to collect memoirs and celebrations of Bernstein. It contains a collection of work by authors who are concerned with contemporary issues and analyses. Each author represented has to some extent been influenced by Bernstein, and thus uses Bernstein's ideas as a point of departure as well as to develop original analyses and perspectives. All of the chapters in this volume are original and each chapter is intended to make a contribution to the sociology of education and educational thought -- Provided by the publisher.
