Nakagin Capsule Tower
by Noritaka Minami
Photobook investigating the current state of the Nakagin Capsule Tower, an experimental apartment complex built in Tokyo by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. Completed in the year 1972, the building is one of the few radical proposals realised through an avant garde architectural movement called Metabolism. Today it also faces an uncertain future in regards to its preservation. This project is the culmination of the documentation performed inside the Nakagin Capsule Tower from 2010 to 2015 in order to examine what became of a building that first opened as a prototype for a new model of living and how this vision of the future appears in retrospect.
