Documents on European Union1997

by A. G. Harryvan

The history of the European Union is presented here in the form of 80 original texts, the highlights of almost seventy years of 'ups and downs' in integration and co-operation, from the Briand Memorandum of 1930 to Mitterrand's 1995 'Nationalism Means War' speech. The two editors of this volume have succeeded in making a representative selection from the enormous number of original documents available on the subject. They have made the documents accessible, sometimes reproducing whole documents, sometimes extracting the most pertinent sections from longer documents. The editors have added useful explanatory introductions and comments on all the selected texts.
