Miguel Rio Branco (Las Palmas, Brazil 1946) is a Brazilian artist - photographer, painter, filmmaker and creator of multimedia installations - who lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. In the 1970s he worked as a filmmaker in New York, directing feature and experimental short films. In 1972 he began exhibiting his photographs, and in 1980 became a Magnum photojournalist. He considers his photobooks -built through meticulous editing have gained status as works of art- an essential means of expression, being the author of "Sudor Amargo", "Nakta", "Livro Silencioso" and "Maldicidade", among others.
