Turner's companion pieces reunited

by Susan Grace Galassi

A booklet prepared in connection with the loan of Joseph Turner's painting, Mortlake Terrace, from the Andrew W. Mellon Collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. It was displayed beside its companion piece at the Frick Collection, Mortlake Terrace: Early Summer Morning, and it is the first time in about one hundred years that these two paintings were exhibited together. The exhibition took place between Oct. 8, 1996 and May 11, 1997. The booklet includes 2 black and white illustrations of studies for the paintings, while the latter are illustrated in color.
